The JSC convened a meeting with the National Treasury, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Tax Appeals Tribunal, Registrar – Tribunals and the Presiding Judge Commercial Division to explore ways of enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of tax-related dispute resolution.
The discussions focused on the fast-tracking of matters before the Tribunal, financial resourcing, automation of processes, case management improvements and necessary legislative reforms. These measures are aimed at streamlining tax dispute resolution, reducing case backlogs and promoting compliance while ensuring fairness in tax administration.
A key issue raised during the meeting was the budgetary constraints facing the JSC and the Judiciary, which impact the effective administration of justice. Stakeholders explored potential solutions to ensure adequate funding, emphasizing the need for sustainable financial support to enhance service delivery.
The JSC reaffirmed its commitment to working collaboratively with stakeholders to strengthen the tax adjudication framework, enhance judicial efficiency and promote a fair, transparent and investor-friendly tax environment in Kenya.
