The Judicial Service Commission commends the National Council on the Administration of Justice (NCAJ) for launching the Administration of Justice Annual Report 2023 – 2024. This report is a critical accountability tool, providing transparency and insight into the work and impact in the justice sector over the past year.
At the JSC, our commitment to an effective and efficient administration of justice remains unwavering. To support the NCAJ’s vital mandate, we have taken significant steps, including:
- Increased Budgetary Allocation: By allocating additional resources, we are empowering the NCAJ to strengthen its capacity and better fulfill its objectives.
- Strengthening Operational Framework: The JSC has approved staff establishment for the NCAJ, ensuring a robust operational framework to enhance its ability to serve the public.
- Incorporating NCAJ Recommendations: Insights from the Administration of Justice Report are being integrated into the JSC’s Annual Report to Parliament. This aligns with our responsibility to advise the National Government on the administration of justice.
To further bolster the NCAJ’s effectiveness, the JSC has issued the following key recommendations:
- Policy Monitoring: Ensure effective implementation of approved policies, such as the Bail and Bond Policy, to enhance accountability and consistency.
- Expanded Justice Focus: Broaden NCAJ’s focus to address not only criminal justice but also commercial, employment, labour, land, and environmental justice. This comprehensive approach reflects the diverse needs of our society.
- Law Reforms: Engage actively in law reforms, including advocating for changes in petty offenses, to promote a fairer and more accessible legal system for all.
At the JSC, we are committed to supporting the NCAJ in delivering justice that is fair, timely, and aligned with the needs of the citizenry. Together, we continue to strengthen the foundation of justice for a better and more equitable society.
